Cymbidiums

8 spikes!
(Cymbidium atropurpureum)

(Cymbidium finlaysonianum)

atropurpureum-spp originated from rambutan tree of Semenyih. First time flowered here since the cutting was taken around 7 years ago on . coconut scented flower, stronger than finlay. The petals are a deep maroon, whereas sepals dull yellow-green with strong maroon staining.

finlaysonianum-spp originated from bukit naga. got the cutting on the lower branch of the hevea brasiliensis. free flowering throughout the year. more common and has wider natural distrib
ution, partly coz its a lowland spp. The petals/sepals are dull green to light yellowish brown.

Personally, prefer atropurpureum more. . Both are very large plant and will form enormous
clump overtime. these 2 spp can be easily confused. Apart from the color, at home, finlay leaf is wider and flower on spike more compact.

Last show, golden shower aka dancing lady won the best plant of the show. tho common, if grow properly will produce showy flowers...kudos to jenny.
err...first time best plant member tak nak cutting walaupon free..:-D
